Who Am I, Really? Figuring Yourself Out in a Loud World

You scroll through social media and see confident teens with “aesthetic” feeds, perfect outfits, and thousands of followers. You wonder: Where do I fit in? Who am I, really?

💬 Real-Life Example:

Maya, 12, didn’t feel like she belonged in any particular friend group. She started copying influencers online—same hair, same hobbies—but felt even more unsure of who she was. She worried that her real self wasn’t "cool enough."

🧭 Why This Happens:

Tweens and teens are in the middle of forming their identities. But when the world keeps shouting at them to be someone else, it’s hard to hear your own voice.

🌟 What You Can Do:

1. Discover Your Core Values

Ask yourself:

  • What makes me feel proud?

  • What do I care deeply about?

  • When do I feel most “me”?

2. Experiment Without Judgement

Try new things: coding, painting, baking, skateboarding. You don’t have to be great at everything—just curious.

3. Limit Comparison Time

If social media makes you feel less-than, take breaks. Follow people who inspire confidence—not insecurity.

4. Surround Yourself With Real, Supportive People

Look for friends who accept you as you are, not who you pretend to be.

5. Use Journaling or Coaching to Reflect

Sometimes we need help sorting through the noise. Journaling or working with a coach can help you see yourself more clearly.
