Overwhelmed by School Stress? Here's How to Take Control

School stress isn’t just about grades—it’s also about expectations, time pressure, and that feeling of never being “enough.” For teens, it can feel like you're juggling flaming swords while blindfolded.

🎓 Real-Life Example:

Jayden, 15, was taking advanced classes, playing on the soccer team, and trying to keep his grades up to please his parents. He was staying up until 2 a.m. doing homework, falling asleep in class, and still feeling like a failure.

🧠 Why It Happens:

  • Unrealistic expectations (from self or others)

  • Lack of time management skills

  • Fear of disappointing others

  • Comparing yourself to “perfect” classmates or influencers

🛠 What You Can Do:

1. Recognise the Signs of Burnout

  • Constant fatigue

  • Trouble focusing

  • Lack of motivation

  • Feeling anxious or irritable

2. Break It Down

Instead of looking at a giant list of tasks, chunk them into small steps. Use a planner or app to schedule your time and build in breaks.

3. Use the “Must-Do, Should-Do, Could-Do” Method

Sort tasks like this:

  • Must-Do: Homework due tomorrow

  • Should-Do: Start next week’s project

  • Could-Do: Organize your desk

4. Ask for Help

Whether it's asking a teacher for an extension or talking to your parents about lightening your load, communicating stress is a sign of strength.

5. Redefine Success

Perfection isn’t the goal. Learning, growing, and staying healthy matter more than a flawless GPA.
